Rotana, Cisco in collaboration deal

Riyadh, January 20, 2008

Rotana Audiovisual will collaborate with Cisco to adopt innovative technologies across its Rotana Entertainment division.

Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Rotana Audiovisual and Kingdom Holding Company, today met John Chambers, chairman and CEO of Cisco in Riyadh to discuss future collaboration.

Under the deal, the global reach of Rotana’s media content will be expanded through a new platform for service providers, which will take advantage of Cisco’s Content Delivery System and IPTV architectures.

By building strategic relationships with real estate developers, service cable and triple-play providers across the world, Rotana’s customers will be able to utilise the new platform to support delivering high-definition picture quality and generate new revenue streams through expanded content availability and targeted advertising, a statement said.

“Our collaboration with Cisco today comes in line with our expansion strategy and furthers our leadership in the entertainment industry,” said Prince Alwaleed. “Working closely with Cisco, Rotana will be able to tap into new markets and communities. Furthermore, with Cisco’s Telepresence, we could introduce unprecedented entertainment experiences and bring Rotana live-like concerts to several geographic locations at the same time.”

“Our collaboration differentiates Rotana as the pioneers in offering the next generation of entertainment. It also signals the transformation of the entertainment and broadcast industry in the region,” said Dr Badr AlBadr, managing director, for Cisco Saudi Arabia.

The collaboration of the two companies will also enable Kingdom Holding to take advantage of Cisco's Connected Real Estate solutions for building intelligent building and infrastructure components, offering value added services that are built on a converged IP network backbone.  The solutions can reduce costs and complexity by replacing disparate networks for communications, security, and building systems with one simplified, flexible, and scalable IP network, the statement said. – TradeArabia News Service
