Arab Media Group promotes Earth Hour

Dubai, March 25, 2009

Arab Media Group (AMG) will join hands with Dubai Holding, Dubai Municipality, and thousands of community members to support Earth Hour 2009.

The global climate change initiative will see thousands of lights turned off in the city for one hour at 8:30pm on March 28 as part of the largest voluntary power down in history.

AMG has mobilised its three newspapers, three television stations with customised programming as seen on Noor Dubai, and eight radio stations to ensure that UAE residents are informed about Earth Hour 2009, a simple yet effective way to reinforce that action against climate change is possible and within everyone’s reach.

“The UAE has the largest environmental footprint in the world, that is why we as a group, we strongly support enviromental initiatives that mobilise the community,” stated Abdulwahed Juma, chief commercial officer of AMG.

Last year, when Dubai became the first Arab city to participate in Earth Hour by virtue of its time zone, electricity consumption in the city was reduced by more than 100,000kwH during the one hour power down.-TradeArabia News Service
