Kuwait bans offensive Web blogs

Kuwait City, September 26, 2009

Kuwait has blocked a number of Internet blogs and websites with links to 'terror' cells and groups, a top communications ministry official has said.

'The ministry has blocked blogs ... used by some to communicate with terror cells and extremist groups,' communications ministry under-secretary Abdulmohsen Al Mazeedi was quoted as saying by Kuwait's An Nahar newspaper.

He said the ministry had also blocked sites deemed offensive to God and the Amir and which undermined national unity, in addition to those promoting pornography, said a report in our sister publication, the Gulf Daily News.

A number of MPs have described the monitoring of blogs as a breach of the constitution and threatened to question Communications Minister Mohammed Al Baseeri in parliament. – TradeArabia News Service
