DWS to upgrade DragonMart's security system

Dubai, November 18, 2009

Dubai World Security (DWS) has signed an agreement to upgrade the security system of DragonMart, the giant mall which is the gateway for wholesale and retail of Chinese products for the Mena region.

Under the agreement, DWS will be upgrading the current video surveillance system of DragonMart, to meet new regulations (and any impending updates) as per the local security laws.

The system will allow the security team to have a more responsive coverage of the mart, which sprawls 150,000 sqm. DWS will be installing an additional 480 high resolution cameras as part of the upgrade. This will provide comprehensive coverage of the giant mall to monitor and safeguard assets, shoppers and patrons.

“This project will enable DragonMart to meet the Dubai Police Department of Protective Systems’ requirements for electronic video surveillance as per Law 24,” said Mahmood Amin, CEO of Dubai World Security.

DragonMart is investing over Dh3.8 million in the upgrade, as part of its long-term commitment to retailers and shoppers.

Dubai has an outstanding record for low crime levels, but video surveillance systems in the malls can deliver much more, from tracking lost items to identifying spillages and avoiding injuries. The capabilities in the system are such that it gives management extensive options to enhance the all-round service of the mart.

“The proposed CCTV system for DragonMart consists of Panasonic high resolution CCTV cameras with Adaptive Black Stretch feature and Panasonic Real Time Digital Disk Recorders. We have included Panasonic top of the range SDIII cameras with very low lux sensitivity for areas where Wide Dynamic Range cameras are required,” said Ameen Abdul Khader, security systems manager.

“Panasonic 30x optical speed dome cameras shall be installed in key areas of the Mart where control of the cameras will be required for general surveillance as well as closer monitoring of a scene of interest. Outdoor cameras shall have IP66 rated housings with built in fan, heater and sunshield along with cable channel brackets. In addition to installing 480 new cameras, we have also included replacement of the current 58 cameras in order to maintain uniformity.”

“DragonMart Security is divided into seven different zones and each zone shall transmit video feeds live through fiber optics to the main control room. Operators in the main control room shall be able to view and manage cameras from any zone on eight large display plasma monitors.”

“The surveillance system allows Security to react faster to incidents from security violations to simple EHS concerns, ensuring that resources are deployed in the most efficient and cost effective manner.”-TradeArabia News Service
