Saudi adopts sustainable agricultural development
Riyadh, March 22, 2010
Saudi Arabia has launched seven new programs for sustainable agricultural development to ensure food security in the kingdom.
The new programs include setting up a national information center for agriculture, rationalisation of water use in irrigation, setting up one or more bodies for marketing vegetables and fruits, cooperative insurance for the animal sector, marketing of dates, setting up a breeding livestock company, and an entity for marketing fish and shrimps both in and outside Saudi Arabia, according to the Arab News.
The programs are aimed at producing safe and quality agricultural products and making them available at reasonable prices to benefit both farmers and consumers, the report said.
