Body to monitor Bahrain ministries urged

Manama, July 8, 2011

A body should be set up to evaluate the performance of ministries and government institutions in Bahrain, said the participants of the economic session at the ongoing National Dialogue in the Kingdom.

More than 284 people, who attended Thursday's sessions put this as one of the main suggestions.

One group suggested the Shura Council members be elected rather than being appointed.

Dialogue spokesman Isa Abdulrahman said in a Press briefing at the media centre that the economic session also discussed taxation and fixing pensions at not less than BD300 a month.

"The independence of the judiciary and discussions on setting up an independent body to supervise the judiciary was also raised by participants in the human rights session.

"There were also talks of putting cases on fast track by upgrading the judicial services."

In the social session, Mr Abdulrahman said members discussed strengthening support for vocational societies, especially in light of unrest.-TradeArabia News Service
