Egyptian expats urged to contribute to charity

Dubai, August 11, 2011

Egyptian Food Bank, a non-profit organisation working towards alleviating poverty and fighting hunger among the underprivileged communities in Egypt, has urged the Egyptian expatriate community in the UAE to contribute to the charity and take part in nation-building initiatives.

At a special presentation held in Dubai, Dr Moez El Shohdi, chief executive officer of Egyptian Food Bank, shared the success story of the organisation and its various food programmes that have successfully addressed crushing poverty and hunger among the economically weaker sections in Egypt, it said.

El Shohdi inspired the audience to partner in Egypt's development, to contribute to it, and in charitable initiatives that enhance the well-being of the less privileged.

“Our presentation focused on engaging the private sector in philanthropic activities and CSR initiatives. We also discussed the role that Egyptians living abroad can play in contributing to the development of Egypt,” said El Shohdi.

“The contribution of Egyptians to their country is never more clearly valued and recognized as during Ramadan,” he added.

The programmes undertaken by the food bank ranges from food material supply, volunteering and relief assistance to raising awareness and providing development opportunities for the underprivileged societies so they can overcome poverty.

Led by the motto ‘Together against Hunger,’ the programmes are executed in partnership with individuals as well as public and private sector organisations.

El Shohdi said that the successful participation of Egyptians at the Dubai event highlighted the clear consensus across the community that their contribution can play a critical role in achieving Egypt’s growth objectives. – TradeArabia News Service
