Decision to suspend doctors ‘hasty’: BMS

Manama, May 28, 2014

Bahrain Medical Society has voiced concern over a Health Ministry decision to suspend three doctors following the death of a 12-year-old boy on the operating table at Salmaniya Medical Complex.

It described the move “hasty and ill-considered” as no initial investigation had taken place and “there has been no evidence of a medical mistake,” said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

It is clear the decision was in anticipation of the public reaction, the society said, warning of the dangerous repercussions of such policies on doctors’ morale and productivity.

Doctors cannot be held liable for the results of common health complications, it said, urging the ministry to assume its responsibility in dealing with its qualified staff with fairness and transparency. The society also said it must take part in nvestigations. - TradeArabia News Service
