DMCA to distribute free lifejackets

Dubai, August 21, 2014

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of Dubai’s maritime sector, will distribute free life jackets to members of the local fishing community.

The move, implemented in collaboration with the Dubai Fishermen Cooperative Association, falls in line with the DMCA’s efforts to promote maritime safety for fisherman as well as those using the waterways for water sports, a statement said.

In line with the launch of the new initiative, the authority has also released the latest marine safety regulations and standards to avoid any potential risks in water and support the ongoing efforts to reduce maritime accidents and safeguard people’s lives, it said.

Adel Kalantar, head of registration and licensing department, said, “The launch of this new safety-focused initiative demonstrates the DMCA’s continued aim to develop a modern and safe maritime sector in Dubai. The latest initiative complements DMCA’s commitment to maintain the highest standards of security and personal safety. Wearing a life jacket guarantees people to enjoy water activities without the fear of drowning.” – TradeArabia News Service
