Euro Motors backs riders on charity drive

MANAMA, January 15, 2015

Euro Motors, the official importer of BMW Motorcycles in Bahrain, has pledged its support to a group of Bahraini motorcycle enthusiasts that recently set off on their BMW Adventure Bikes for a 15-day cross-country tour to raise money for local charities and spread the message of unity.

The group embarked for the journey on their BMW R 1200 GS and BMW K1600 GTL motorcycles.

The Super Adventure Riders – the eight BMW Adventure Bike owners from a variety of backgrounds – will ride from Bahrain to Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt, a journey spanning over 4,000 km, while stopping at numerous points along the way to engage in charitable activities, including a visit to the Al Zaatari and Al Zarga refugee camps in Jordan.

The BMW R 1200 GS, a four-stroke engine capable of 125 bhp, is the machine taking the group on the journey comprising bumpy roads and harsh desert terrain. With two standard riding modes – Rain and Road – the bike offers two completely different, finely tuned ride responses.

The tank volume of 30 litres with optimised fuel consumption will have the riders avoiding unwanted breaks.

The riders will also be assisted by an on-board computer, which will enable perfect navigation and give the riders useful information such as fuel level, speed and fuel consumption.

The BMW K1600 GTL, a top level touring bike possesses the most compact and efficient in-line 6-cylinder engine ever installed in a series production motorcycle, it is designed for long trips and perfect for both rider and pillion passenger in terms of comfort. The slim design in the area of the rider's seat and the fact that the handlebars reach far back allows a relaxed seating position as the riders travel over hundreds of kilometres.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa, chief organiser of the trip and head of the Super Adventure Riders, said: "This is truly a once in a life time journey of which I am very proud to be a part. With the help of Euro Motors, and our amazing BMW Adventure Bikes, we have set out on this trip to spread the message that it does not matter what religion we are, or what background or social class we come from – we are all equal and are all ‘One Bahrain’.”

Paul Yates, general manager of Euro Motors, said: “BMW Motorrad is the ideal partner to support the Super Adventure Riders on their epic journey.”

“BMW Motorrad is all about making pulses race, embracing adventure and being a safe and trusty companion on the road. Joining the Super Adventure Riders on this incredible journey was therefore the perfect fit for Euro Motors. We are delighted to be a part of such an important and worthwhile cause, and will be with them every step of the way,” he added.

The trip began on January 15, with the eight riders setting out from Bahrain over to Saudi Arabia. After riding through the Saudi Arabia, the next stop will be the Jordanian capital of Amman for three days.

During the stopover, the team will travel to two refugee camps including Al Zaatari, a place established to house Syrians fleeing from their country’s civil war, to present, together with HRH Prince Hamzah bin Al-Hussein, aid including winter clothing, tents, shelter and food provided by the Royal Charity Organisation.

The stay will then culminate with a visit to Bahrain School, the only school in the camp, to present the traditional Bahraini halwa sweet to each of its 9,000 students, while HRH Prince Hamzah bin Al-Hussein will give a donation as well as announce the opening of the Bahrain fresh-water well.

The riders will then take a ferry trip across to Egypt and the city of Nuweiba, before trekking down to Dahab on the east coast for a three-day stay. Here they will participate in an underwater diving adventure, take photographs and shoot videos of their ‘unity’ message, with a host of banners and flags serving as the backdrop.

The final stop before heading on the return leg will be a meeting with the ambassador of Bahrain in Sharm El-Sheikh, where they will raise the Bahrain flag on King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Road to send the unity message to the world via flags and banners. A personal message to the King will also be recorded and sent to emphasise the theme of loyalty.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa, chief organiser of the trip and head of the group, said: “We are eight riders from Bahrain with very different backgrounds, but all from one country. Traveling these long distances together highlight our love and unity for one another. This journey is one we have all dreamed of doing and we are happy that it is finally coming true.” – TradeArabia News Service
