Bahrain hopes Iran nuke deal will end interference

CAMP DAVID, May 15, 2015

Bahrain has expressed hope that the framework agreement between the p5+1 and Iran will lead to a significant change in Iran's policy regarding non-interference in the internal affairs of countries in the region.

This came as His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier took part in the GCC-US summit at Camp David on an invitation from President Barack Obama to discuss ways to further strengthen US-GCC security co-operation and address regional security issues, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The Crown Prince highlighted that Bahrain's participation in the summit demonstrates His Majesty King Hamad's commitment to ensure Bahrain's contributions to strengthening regional and international security, and stressed that further enhancing co-operation between the US and GCC is a vital component of achieving long-term stability and prosperity in the region and the world.

Speaking about recent developments in Yemen, the Crown Prince highlighted that Bahrain is committed to supporting regional efforts to re-establish stability in Yemen, and added that the current phase of efforts are underpinned by UN Security Council resolution 2216, which seeks to find a political solution and takes into account the humanitarian needs of Yemen's citizens.

He highlighted the grave impact and destabilising effect of the Syrian war on the region, and added that Bahrain fully supports ongoing efforts by the UN Security Council to find an immediate and peaceful resolution.

The Crown Prince also highlighted that achieving peace between Palestine and Israel remains a matter of significant importance to Arab states, and stressed that Bahrain supports Arab partners' efforts to find a solution that protects the interests of all Palestinians based on international law, United Nations resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative.

He underlined the GCC's commitment to support the governments of Iraq and Libya in their fight against terrorism and achieve long-term stability.

The Crown Prince noted that this is a pivotal moment for the region's long-term security, and stressed the need to clearly define the broader extremist threat the region is facing.

He underlined Bahrain's commitment to fighting the spread of an evil theofascist ideology within the region.

On the eve of the summit, the Crown Prince attended a dinner banquet at the White House hosted by President Obama in honour of the heads of the delegations attending the summit.

The Crown Prince noted the summit's importance in strengthening the strategic alliance between GCC and the US.

Highlighting the important and strategic location of the Middle East, he emphasised the shared responsibility of all in supporting efforts to maintain security and stability across the region.

He extended the greetings of His Majesty King Hamad to President Obama and noted the important role of strategic and influential ties between the US and the GCC in maintaining the stability and security of the Gulf region. - TradeArabia News Service
