Dubai power demand rises 3.8pc in Q2

Dubai, September 3, 2012

Electricity demand in Dubai rose by 3.8 per cent in the second quarter of 2012, compared to the same period of last year, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) said on Monday.

Power demand in Dubai, the Middle East's largest financial and trading hub, peaked at 6,165 megawatts (MW) in the period from April 1 to June 30, up from a peak of 5,941 MW in the second quarter of 2011, the state-run utility said.

Dewa did not say why demand for electricity rose during the period, but the glitzy emirate has seen a modest recovery in business activity over the past year after a financial crisis from late 2009 to 2010. – Reuters
