Egypt...keen to promote bilateral co-opeartion

Egypt, Jordan sign gas sector co-operation deal

CAIRO, March 19, 2015

Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (Egas) and the Jordanian-Egyptian FAJR Company have signed a deal on gas sector co-operation, according to a report.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed to tap into the infrastructure and facilities available in the two countries, said the Ministry of Petroleum in the Daily News Egypt report.

Egypt is keen to promote bilateral oil and gas sector co-operation, said Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Sherif Ismail, during a meeting with Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ibrahim Saif in Cairo.

The ministers also discussed the significance of developing the co-operation between Egypt, Jordan and Iraq in terms of expanding Iraq’s gas pipelines.

This would entail Iraqi gas reaching Egypt through Jordan, for the country to benefit from Iraq’s oil and gas surplus.

Meanwhile, the meeting also saw the agreement to co-operate in the refining industry sector, which will see Egypt-based ENPPI conduct a study to evaluate Jordan’s Al-Zarka Refinery.

It will run alongside co-operation in employee training, using Egyptian training centres, said the report.

Several agreements amounting to a total of $23.5 billion were also signed in the oil, gas and mining sectors at a recently concluded summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, it added.
