Top IT, electronics show opens in Dubai

DUBAI, October 3, 2015

Gitex Shopper 2015, the largest consumer electronics show in the Middle East, officially opened its doors in Dubai featuring more than 35,000 cutting-edge gadgets and a record number of prizes from top name brands and power retailers to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary.

The event was inaugurated by Helal Saeed Al Marri, the director general, Dubai Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) Authority.

The eight-day shopping extravaganza which concludes on Saturday (October 10) has several prizes up for grabs including raffle draws, gold, cars, flights and holidays throughout each day, said the event organisers.

Thousands of eager shoppers packed Sheikh Saeed Halls 1, 2 and 3 on the first day of the show, taking advantage of the latest deals on smartphones, digital cameras, UHD TVs, tablets and a broad spectrum of the latest electronic gadgets.

The fun festival atmosphere saw visitors enjoying live music and entertainment, interactive product trials and a host of incredible giveaways. A wide choice of casual dining options added to a great day out for the family, said the organisers.

Gitex Shopper 2015 has attracted some of the world’s top tech brands including Lenovo, Dell, Samsung and Toshiba.
Commenting on Samsung's offers and new products this year, C. Purushothaman, the head of marketing in the IM division at Samsung Gulf Electronics, said: "Consumers from across the region consistently seek out Samsung’s most cutting-edge products at Gitex Shopper. This year, we are upping the ante with our strongest set of mobile devices ever displayed at the show and our most affordable SUHD TV, the JS7200."

"From the Galaxy Note5 to the unveiling of our new Galaxy Gear S2 smartwatch, this year will be unforgettable for anyone who wants the best in viewing and mobile technology," he stated.

Top regional distributors and power retailers including Jacky’s, Jumbo, Max Electronics, Plug Ins and Sharaf DG add to the stellar line-up of exhibitors.

More than Dh3 million in prizes will be won in promotions, competitions, giveaways and raffles being run for the eight days of the show. Visitors spending Dh500 or more can participate in the daily raffle to win half a kilogram of gold every day, simply by uploading their invoices on the ‘Sweet’ app, downloadable for both IOS and android devices, they added.

Additional to the extraordinary prizes to be won this year, is the invaluable opportunity being offered by Amity University for students to win a university scholarship every day of the show, according to the organisers.

Valued at Dh280,000 and applicable to any Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree offered by the University, the scholarships require students to submit their best report cards each day to be in running, they added.
