Dubai, January 3, 2011

More than 70 per cent of the total number of boats on display were sold during the  recent Saudi International Boat Show, the kingdom’s only international leisure marine tourism festival, a statement said.

The second edition of the show saw more than 30,000 visitors. The four-day event featured 58 world class boats and yachts, alongside a wide range of products and services from 135 of the boating industry’s top companies and brands from 19 countries.

Organised by Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), managed by Al Ahlam Marine Tourism Group and endorsed by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, the Saudi International Boat Show drew 74 newcomers from Asia, North America, Europe and Australasia. The event also attracted first time brands such as Westport, Romeo Marine, Trinity Yachts and Japan Marine as well as 14 new Saudi companies and brands, the statement said.

Companies which sold boats included Al Shaali Marine, Kayello, Mega Marine, Saudi Yachts, Sunseeker, Reneh Emirates Trading and many more. Wail Yahya Ali Rawas Marine Equipment sold as many as 7 boats. Mercedes Benz (Juffali Group), the show’s official car sponsor, also signed deals for several luxury cars showcased at the event.

More than 80 per cent of participating companies have already booked their place for 2011, highlighting the success of this year’s show, a spokesperson said.

The event also provided a strategic platform to display and launch an unrivalled collection of superyachts and boats from the world’s leading manufacturers, including the eagerly awaited regional premieres of the Pershing 72 and the Benetti Delfino and the Saudi Premiere of the Azimut 53.

“Once again the Saudi International Boat Show exceeded our expectations and affirmed its emergence as one of the top boating events in the region. The exhibitor and visitor feedback has been encouraging and we will continue to work hand in hand with the industry to deliver another enhanced event,” said Helal Saeed Almarri, chief executive, DWTC.

The show included a marina display area, a dedicated diving village presented by Dream Divers, and a supplies and services pavilion showcasing a broad range of navigation equipment, engines and fixtures and fittings.-TradeArabia News Service
