Abu Dhabi launches food safety campaign

Abu Dhabi, February 25, 2012

Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has launched a new campaign 'Zadna' as part of its ongoing awareness program to educate children on food safety methods.

The campaign comes in line with ADFCA’s belief that food safety is a shared responsibility that requires positive interaction and active participation by all sections of the community, said the authority in a statement.

The idea is to produce a cartoon series that involve several characters of different nationalities that come together on a field trip to the ‘Heritage Village’.

During their trip the children shed light on good and bad eating habits, checking expiry dates, food contamination and the effects of additives. All the food tips are being disseminated through a comic, easy to grasp program that comprises 15 episodes targeting children from the age group of 5-10 years, it added.

Mohamed Jalal Al Reyaysa, the director of Communication and Community Service, ADFCA, said: 'We seek to educate consumers about the crucial practices that must be followed in dealing with food.'

'‘Zadna’ has targeted children because it is well known that children at this age are vulnerable when dealing with food and all the tips and guidance that they will receive will stick with them and they will pass them on to their peers and parents,' he stated.

“During this campaign, children are targeted through a series of school visits designed to nearly 36 schools in Abu Dhabi, the Western Region and Al Ain. Printed ads and booths will be placed in Marina Mall -Abu Dhabi, Al Jimi Mall-Al Ain and City Mall in the Western Region, to help further interaction with children and help in changing their behavior and guiding them to follow the right approach,” he added.

Al Reyaysa called on parents to contribute to the campaign and take their children to visit the stands of the Zadna Series in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region.

The children, he said, would receive a warm welcome and will have the opportunity to meet the characters, take pictures, gifts and receive episodes of the series which is available in Arabic, English and Urdu.-TradeArabia News Service
