Bahrain, UK reciprocal visa accord implemented

Manama, June 4, 2014

Britons holding diplomatic or special passports will now be able to enter Bahrain without the need for pre-issue visas, it was declared yesterday.

The same applies to Bahrainis planning to enter the UK, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The Nationality, Passport and Residence Affairs (NPRA) has started to take the necessary measures in this regard.

This follows directives from Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and a memorandum of understanding between Bahrain and the UK.

NPRA Under-Secretary Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa said that the minister's decision has been circulated at all borders and Civil Aviation for implementation.

Bahrainis with diplomatic and special passports are allowed to leave to the UK and Northern Ireland without the need for visas and are allowed to stay up to six months in each visit. The same privileges are given to UK and Northern Ireland citizens. - TradeArabia News Service
