Abu Dhabi's Midfield terminal ‘on schedule’

Dubai, June 12, 2014

About 35 per cent of Abu Dhabi International’s Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) steel structure will be completed by the end of the month, said a report.

The Dh10.8 billion ($2.9 billion) project is ‘absolutely on schedule and within budget,’ a top executive was quoted as saying in a Gulf News report.

MTB, which will be used by Etihad Airways and its partner airlines, will be between 630,000 sq m and 702,369 sq m, according to reports. It is set to open on July 17, 2017.

“The steel of each of the four piers are now almost complete and the distinctive shape of the complex becoming increasingly visible,” Ali Majed Al Mansouri, chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports, was quoted as saying.

The piers, where passengers will board from, will be able to accommodate up to 65 aircraft, he said.

Dubai-listed Arabtec and Turkey’s TAV are tied up in a joint venture to build the new terminal complex, added the report.
