Oman Air....going green

Oman Air launches paper recycling programme

MUSCAT, November 2, 2014

Oman Air, the national airline of Oman, has expanded its corporate social responsibility programme to include dedicated newspaper and magazine recycling points within its headquarters, and at the Muscat International Airport.

The initiative is being run in partnership with Mzaya Al Batina Modern, an Omani company run by young local entrepreneurs. It will see Oman Air-branded collection points being placed in the airline’s HQ1 and HQ2 buildings, before being extended to include Oman Air’s extensive operation at its home airport.

Newspapers and magazines from across the company, and from the airline’s aircraft arriving at Muscat, will then be recycled, thereby saving energy, and reducing dependence on trees and other primary sources of paper.

Paul Gregorowitsch, chief executive officer at Oman Air, said: “This initiative builds on Oman Air’s previous environmental action. That has included waste minimisation initiatives, providing more on-board information electronically, and annually participating in Earth Hour. Furthermore, the arrival from next year of the Boeing 787 Dreamliners that we currently have on order will offer further environmental benefits. They will enable us to reduce the average amount of fuel we use per km and our noise footprint on many long haul services.

“We are proud to be promoting a greener, more environmentally-sensitive agenda and we are sure that this latest recycling initiative will prove to be a major success. I would encourage colleagues throughout Oman Air to make the most of this opportunity by disposing of all their unwanted paper products at the designated collection points,” he said. – TradeArabia News Service
