BAC,Iata host workshop on airport collaboration programme

MANAMA, March 2, 2015

Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operators and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), in cooperation with International Air Transport Association (Iata), hosted a joint workshop directed at improving efficiency across airport operations.

The seminar focused on the Global Airport Collaborative Decision Making programme (ACDM), a concept aimed at improving air traffic flow and capacity management at airports by reducing delays, facilitating the predictability of events and optimising the utilisation of available capacities and operational resources.

Commenting on this initiative, BAC’s chief executive officer Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah said: “the ACDM program was initiated in the US and grew out of an imperative to improve airport operations through better communication and relationship building among strategic airport partners. BIA’s competitive advantage lies in its operational efficiency and the ACDM is an ideal tool to help enhance this strength. The ACDM has been successfully implemented across major airports in Europe and the US and we look forward to sharing a similar success story at BIA”.

The ACDM encourages the collaborative decision making between key members of the airport community, including airlines, airport operators, ground handlers, civil aviation representatives and air traffic control. This programme enables the timely and accurate exchange of information between the ACDM partners, leading to increased efficiency in the planning, decision-making and implementation process.

Mohamed Thamir Al Kaabi, BAC’s chief airport operating officer, said: “Within an airport setting where time is of utmost importance, efficiency is paramount. By adopting a structured communication system across key airport partners, we can ensure common situational awareness and better decision making; this in turn will help us anticipate key areas of concern and develop pre-emptive solutions. Developed based on the cooperation with the main airport partners and sharing available data for operational processes, the system is set to improve the decision-making process and enhance our ability to find the ideal solutions for the flow of air traffic and improve the travel experience.” – TradeArabia News Service
