Zeitz.. committed to social and environmental responsibility

Zeitz highlights corporate world's social responsibility

DUBAI, February 7, 2016

Jochen Zeitz, owner of Segera, a wilderness safari retreat in Kenya, recently addressed a gathering at the Capital Club in Dubai on the social and environmental responsibility of the corporate world.

Zeitz, a rare breed of people who has operated at the very peak of the corporate world and yet maintained a committed belief in social and environmental responsibility, titled his presentation "Into Africa: A personal journey through conservation, community, culture and commerce".

Previously the CEO of sports giant, Puma, he is now a director of Kering and Harley Davidson, and a full-time activist and philanthropist who dedicates most of his energy to highlighting and coordinating development projects on the African continent.

"I firmly believe that the corporate world and social and environmental issues should not operate as non-overlapping magisteria. It is clear to me that sustainable practices need not be in direct competition to profit and business must became part of the solution to many social and environmental issues. However, I am not naive to the task that lies ahead," said Zeitz.

"As we sit at the beginning of the 21st century, we have a duty to contribute to the building of a new paradigm and narrative that can see both the corporate world and sustainable social and environmental initiatives co-exist," Zeitz added.

When asked about his move to the tourism industry, he said: “I never wanted to be in the tourism business, but this was the best way to share this part of my life and to help educate people on conservation and sustainable safari experiences.”
