Parsons lands Sharjah airport expansion project

DUBAI, March 22, 2017

Parsons, a leading engineering services firm, said it has won a contract to provide construction and project management services for the Sharjah International Airport expansion project in the UAE.

The scope of work includes oversight of the planning, design, construction, and commissioning of the airport’s expansion, said a statement from the company.

On completion, the airport will see addition of numerous facilities besides the enlargement of the passengers’ building, aimed at boosting its capacity to 25 million travellers per year. The project will also include expanding roads to and from the airport, it stated.

The project will be one of the most architecturally distinctive landmarks in Sharjah, and is an important addition to the airport. Due to its strategic location, the airport is an important stop for both airlines and cargo shipping.

In addition, the project will dramatically improve the airports’ services and will support development and job opportunities within the emirate, it added.

On the contract win, Gary Adams, the group president, said: "The Sharjah International Airport expansion programme will dramatically improve travel options to and from Sharjah, as well as promote economic growth and job creation."

A technology-driven firm with more than 70 years of experience in the design, engineering, construction, technical, and professional services industries, Parsons has a major presence in the Middle East and Africa region with offices in the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Bahrain.

Its portfolio of ongoing work in the region includes airports, highways, bridges, buildings, residential communities, mixed-use developments, rail and transit, ports, water infrastructure, and oil and gas projects, said Adams.

The company delivers design/design-build, programme/construction management, systems design/engineering, cyber/converged security, and other professional services packaged in innovative alternative delivery methods to federal, regional, and local government agencies, as well as to private customers worldwide, he added.-TradeAraia News Service
