Expo 2020 Dubai will organise a World Wildlife Day Tour on March 3, enabling visitors to discover our planet’s incredible inhabitants and nurture a sense of responsibility towards protecting them.

The journey has been specially curated for World Wildlife Day on March 3, an opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and different wild fauna and flora, and to raise awareness of the many benefits of conservating them.

The Expo 2020 Dubai trail will leave visitors awed at the diversity of species belonging to the animal kingdom – from mongooses and red-footed falcons to gorillas and long-eared owls –  and learn about the value of ecotourism, research, protection programmes and the consequences of extinction.

The journey begins at Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion, where the wadi (a dry riverbed) traverses thousands of years of the changing climate in the Arabian Peninsula. Discover the region’s animals and those that are now extinct, including elephants, ostriches and cheetahs.  

Visitors continue through the Sustainability District to the Gabon Pavilion, a country in which more than 10 per cent of land is a designated national park. The West African nation is home to a huge array of wildlife, including gorillas, forest elephants, marine turtles and three species of crocodiles, while its vast, unexplored landscapes are a paradise for adventure sports enthusiasts.

The island nation of Madagascar boasts a plethora of plant and animal species that are found nowhere else on the planet. The Madagascar Pavilion introduces the incredible beings that call this land home, from baobabs to mongooses and sharks to turtles, as well as the unique tourist attractions that continue to attract investors.

At the Montenegro Pavilion, visitors will be immersed in a colourfully-illuminated digital forest that guides the way to a panoramic window of the country’s most impressive landscapes. Montenegro’s biodiversity is on full display through interactive tablets that allow visitors to delve into the species residing within the Montenegro mountains.

Moving to the Opportunity District, the Mauritius Pavilion offers a chance to explore a country that is both a tropical paradise and home to a robust economy. A virtual reality adventure takes visitors through the nation’s stunning beaches and rainforests. Mauritius’ rich heritage is also on display, from its history in sugarcane production to its practice of ‘sirandanes’ riddles, as well as the story of the Dodo, an extinct flightless bird that was endemic to the island.

The Nicaragua Pavilion showcases what makes the Central American country a biodiversity hotspot, with protected areas making up a fifth of the country’s territory. Highlights including the Bosawás Reserve, Río San Juan, and the island of Ometepe can be explored, and visitors can also discover Nicaragua’s ecotourism offering and drive towards fair and sustainable tourism.

An interactive experience awaits at the Monaco Pavilion, where visitors can engage with emerging research and technology on preserving biodiversity, such as a prototype of an autonomous camera robot disguised as a baby penguin that allows researchers to observe and accompany penguins without triggering stress behaviours. The pavilion also explores solutions to protect endangered coral reefs while sustaining the blue economy.
