Ericsson, a leader in communications technology and services, has revealed the winners of its 2015 ‘Smart Schools’ competition which was held in Egypt.
Taking place in Egypt for the second consecutive year, the competition included five new areas this time around, covering Giza, Qalioubeya, Minya, Qena and Port Said, according to a company statement.
Ericsson organised this competition in co-operation with Nile Schools in Egypt focusing on the role that communications technology can play in fostering innovation among secondary school students and through education, it added.
The contestants were asked to come up with ideas for innovative inventions of future technologies that will benefit the society.
Only three governorates made it to the semi-final (Giza, Qalioubeya and Port Said) who later presented their ideas in front of a judging committee, said the statement.
HebaTullah Shaker from Obour Nile School won for her idea ‘Good Harvest’; followed by Omar Ayman from Obour Nile school who came second with his ‘Smart Bin’ idea; and Salma Ihab from 6th of October Nile school clenched the third place for her idea ‘Revealing secrets’, it said.
The winner were awarded a roundtrip to visit Ericsson’s Experience Centre in Sweden where they will have the opportunity to explore more about the ICT fast evolution, it stated.
Additionally, they will also get a chance to present their ideas before Ericsson research experts who will study the implementation of their ideas in real life.
Isil Yalcin, president of Ericsson North East Africa, said: “The competition in Egypt reflects our belief in the young generations’ great potential to come up with unique and exciting ideas to shape the networked society.”
