Oman signs $197m development projects

Oman government has signed agreements worth RO76.1 million ($197 million) for development of infrastructure for an upcoming residential project in the North Al Batinah governorate and towards preparing the necessary studies and detailed layouts for a new urban complex to come up at Al Najd area in the Governorate of Dhofar, said a report.

The agreements cover provision of water, irrigation, rainwater discharge, sanitary drainage, electricity and communication networks, reported Oman Observer.

The first contract worth RO75.9 million ($196 million) involves infrastructure work for the new residential area in the Wilayat of Liwa region, while the second agreement worth RO217,000 ($560,897) has been signed with Arc Plan International Engineering Consultancy to prepare the studies for the urban complex at the Wilayat of Thamrait region, it stated.

The agreement for the levelling of the site and the roads for the new residential area in Liwa was earlier signed at a cost of more than RO25 million ($64.6 million).

The scope of work includes construction of roads connecting the residential districts and the service roads parallel to the current Al Batinah road.

The agreement is expected to meet the growing needs for lands for different uses in the wilayats of Salalah and Thamrait, it added.
