Unique Group has supported one of the longest and technically complex shore pull operations for Adnoc’s Hail and Ghasha offshore gas development, in collaboration with Saipem.
The project involved
three shore pulls, each exceeding 6.67 kilometers—among the longest in both
Saipem’s history and the offshore industry.
The operation required
precise engineering to maintain controlled tension, stability, and safety
throughout the extended installations.
To meet these demands,
Unique Group deployed an engineered shore-pull wire configuration alongside bespoke buoyancy
systems to ensure load control within strict safety parameters.
The company designed,
engineered, and supplied custom 5-tonne Inflatable Buoyancy Units (IBUs) and
1-tonne Mono Buoyancy Units (MBUs).
These enclosed systems
combine parachute-bag load-angle tolerance with single-point attachment,
enabling inline installation and safe pulling in constrained environments.
Challenges included narrow, shallow trench geometry and tidal variations
in the nearshore zone.
Unique Group developed
tailored buoyancy configurations and a specifically engineered Pressure Relief
Valve system to maintain consistent performance.
Close collaboration
with Saipem ensured site-specific adaptations, mitigating risk and enabling project
delivery.
“This was a complex
shore pull with very tight environmental and physical constraints,” said Rakesh
Bangera, Head of Sales – Middle East at Unique Group. “Our team worked closely
with Saipem to develop a bespoke buoyancy solution that addressed trench
limitations, tidal variations, and long pull distances. This project is a
strong example of how our engineering agility and collaborative approach help
clients overcome challenging offshore installation scenarios.”
“The Hail and Ghasha
shore pull required precise engineering and a high degree of adaptability,”
said Suraj Kalase, Project Lead, Saipem. “Unique Group’s ability to tailor the
buoyancy design to the project’s specific constraints played a key role in achieving
a safe and successful installation.” -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
