Steady progress is being made on the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Stadium, an architectural and engineering marvel  coming up within Qiddiya City, the mega Saudi entertainment, culture and sports project located near Riyadh. 

With early foundation works now taking shape on one of the kingdom’s most remarkable future venues, it is expected to be completed in 2029.

Perched around 200m above the ground on the Tuwaiq cliffs, the 46,000-seat stadium will be one of the proposed venues for the 2034 FIFA World Cup gala as well as a major destination for sports, entertainment, and immersive experiences in Saudi Arabia.

More than a traditional stadium, it is being designed to reflect the scale of ambition behind Qiddiya’s vision, combining iconic design, advanced technology, and a unique cliffside setting to create a venue unlike any other in the region, said senior officials. 

“It will be the world's first stadium to fully combine a retractable roof, a retractable pitch and a massive LED mega-wall into a single structure. Also one entire side of the stadium consists of hundreds of meters of high-resolution digital screens. This Giant LED Wall can open up completely to offer spectators panoramic views of Qiddiya City below,” they stated.

Designed by architectural firm Populous, the arena includes an eco-engineered cooling system. This system utilises an underground artificial lake that captures rainwater to significantly reduce energy consumption, they added.-TradeArabia News Service
