Leading Chinese group Shanxi Installation Company has secured a contract worth RMB1.5 billion ($222 million) to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the 500MW Al Kamil I Solar Independent Power Project (IPP) in Oman.

The contract marks Shanxi Installation Group’s first key project implemented in the Middle East and represents a significant expansion of the company’s international EPC activities in the renewable energy sector.

Located in the Al Kamil Wal Wafi area of Oman, approximately 230km from Muscat International Airport and around 440km from Sohar Port, the project is being developed by a consortium led by EDF Power Solutions with key partner Oman Power and Water Procurement Company serving as the power purchaser.

As per the deal, Shanxi Installation Group’s scope of work includes the design, manufacturing, procurement, supply, factory testing, transportation, installation, construction, grid connection to the high-voltage substation, testing and commissioning of the solar PV facility.

It also includes two and a half years of operation and maintenance (O&M) services following the completion and commissioning of the photovoltaic power station.

On completion, the 500 MW Al Kamil I Solar IPP will supply clean electricity to Oman’s national grid and contribute to the Sultanate’s strategy to increase renewable energy capacity and diversify its power generation mix.-TradeArabia News Service
