Equinor has signed a three-year agreement with Poland’s Orlen to supply crude oil from the Johan Sverdrup field, strengthening Norway’s role in Europe’s energy security.
The deal, starting in September, covers annual supplies of
between 5 million and more than 9 million tonnes, with the option to supply
other Norwegian crude grades.
The oil will support Orlen refineries in Poland, Lithuania
and the Czech Republic.
“This agreement is another example of how energy from the
Norwegian continental shelf contributes to security of supply for Europe. We
are very pleased to strengthen our relationship with Orlen through this
agreement for sales of crude to their refineries in Poland, Lithuania and the
Czech Republic,” said Irene Rummelhoff, Equinor’s executive vice president for
Marketing, Midstream and Processing.
Orlen President Ireneusz Fąfara said the agreement could
provide up to one-quarter of the group’s annual crude demand, strengthening
access to stable Norwegian supplies.
“A secure future begins with decisions made in advance. That
is why we are strengthening the Orlen Group’s access to stable sources of crude
oil from Norway, which may account for up to one-quarter of our annual demand,”
Fąfara said.
Johan Sverdrup, Norway’s largest oil-producing field, is a
major contributor to European energy supply and benefits from power-from-shore
infrastructure that significantly reduces production emissions.
The agreement builds on wider Equinor-Orlen cooperation and
Norway’s growing energy partnership with Poland, spanning oil, natural gas, LNG
and renewable energy.
Equinor is also developing offshore wind projects with Polenergia, while its Wento subsidiary is expanding solar, onshore wind and battery storage activities in Poland. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
