RTA announces upgrade of key Dubai-Sharjah traffic corridor

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed traffic improvements at Al Qiyadah Intersection aimed at easing congestion and improving traffic flow towards Abu Hail and Salah Al Din streets.

The upgrade includes a new left-turn lane from Al Ittihad Road onto Abu Hail Street towards Salah Al Din Street, created by using existing parallel parking spaces and part of the central median. RTA said the changes are expected to increase the intersection’s capacity and reduce peak-hour waiting times by up to 15%.

The works also involved redesigning parts of the intersection, adjusting traffic signal timings and carrying out road and pavement rehabilitation, including concrete barriers linked to the new layout.

RTA also added parking spaces along Abu Hail Street and installed lighting poles at existing parking areas.

Al Qiyadah Intersection is located on Al Ittihad Road, a major corridor linking Dubai and Sharjah, and distributes traffic to key roads in Deira, including Abu Hail, Salah Al Din and Al Quds streets.

The authority said the improvements are part of its efforts to expand and upgrade Dubai’s road network in line with population growth, rising traffic volumes and future transport demand.-TradeArabia News Service
