Eni, through Agiba Petroleum Company, its joint venture with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), has launched start-up activities for the Meleiha Phase 2 (MP2) project in Egypt’s Western Desert, marking a significant step in expanding the country’s natural gas production and processing capacity.
The project will establish a new gas hub within the Merged
Meleiha concession, featuring a processing facility with a capacity of up to
100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
Its integrated infrastructure includes development wells,
gathering systems, trunklines and a dedicated gas export pipeline, connecting
new production to Egypt’s existing gas network and enabling faster resource
monetization.
MP2 is expected to support the growth of domestic gas
supplies, improve operational efficiency and strengthen Egypt’s energy security
by unlocking the potential of the Western Desert, a key area for the country’s
energy sector.
The project underscores Eni’s long-standing partnership with
Egypt and its commitment to developing the country’s hydrocarbon resources in
line with operational excellence, safety and environmental sustainability
standards.
Eni has operated in Egypt since 1954 and remains the
country’s leading energy producer.
In 2025, the company recorded hydrocarbon production of
approximately 242,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day on an equity basis.
Through its subsidiaries and joint ventures, Eni maintains
exploration, development and production operations across the Western Desert,
Gulf of Suez, Nile Delta and Eastern Mediterranean, reinforcing its strategic
presence across Egypt’s energy value chain. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
