Saudi surplus tops $164bn in 2012

Saudi Arabia's current account surplus rose to 149.8 billion riyals ($39.9 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2012 from 140.7 billion in the previous three months, central bank estimates showed.
 
The figure puts the 2012 surplus at 617.9 billion riyals ($164.7 billion), or 22.7 per cent of the Opec member's gross domestic product, according to a Reuters calculation based on the official data, down from the 669.2 billion previously announced.
   
Analysts polled by Reuters in April forecast that the world's top crude exporter will see a current account
 surplus of 16.5 percent of GDP in 2013.  - Reuters
