Fire in Atlantis Hotel on Palm

Dubai, September 2, 2008

A fire has broken out in the five-star Atlantis Hotel on the Palm Jumeirah.

A Dubai Civil Defence official said firefighters have been battling flames in the lobby of the hotel. The cause is not yet known.

The Atlantis is set to open on September 24 and currently has no guests in it. All the workers have been evacuated.

A report on Gulf News website said Dubai Police had confirmed the fire broke out in the hotel’s lobby as labourers were carrying out maintenance work. No deaths or injuries have been reported so far.

The fire broke out at around 7.20 am and was contained at approximately 10.15 am, an official was quoted as saying.

The hotel released a statement earlier to confirm the fire. No one was injured in the incident and all on-site staff were evacuated immediately, it said.
