Turkish minister visits RAK free zone

Ras Al Khaimah, May 2, 2012

In a step that reinforces Turkey’s commitment to boost its trade relations with Ras Al Khaimah, the Turkish Minister of Economy Zafer Çaglayan, led a high-level trade visit to Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone (RAK FTZ).

Çaglayan and the visiting Turkish trade delegation held discussions with top officials of the free zone.

The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including a new liaison office for Turkey at the free zone, a permanent exhibition area for Turkish brands within the free zone, a common warehousing and cold storage facility inside the free zone for Turkish clients, and a logistic hub for Turkish clients.

Talks also covered the probabilities of setting up a RAK Business Centre (RAK BC) in Istanbul and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Turkish Free Zones’ Authority and RAK FTZ to boost mutual cooperation and staff training exchange.

Çaglayan said: “We are indeed privileged to be at RAK FTZ and appreciate the immense business potential it offers for businesses in Turkey, thanks to its world-class facilities and the strategic location that provides opportunities of expansion across the Middle East and Africa. The planned MoUs with our Free Zones and RAK FTZ are in steps towards boosting our trade ties as well as the discussion towards closer collaboration across various spheres, which could possibly translate into a lot of investment and knowledge transfer between Turkey and Ras Al Khaimah. This visit has offered us a huge opportunity to grow and we are looking at a mutually beneficial partnership between the Turkish companies and RAK FTZ in the years to come.”

Sheikh Faisal Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, chairman of RAK FTZ, said: “We are extremely honoured to welcome HE Zafer Çaglayan to RAK FTZ. During the talks, we discussed a wide array of sectors for closer commercial and social relations and see a lot of fruitful cooperation deals stemming out of this visit. The fact that this mission comes within months of the high-level media visit from Turkey, and close on the heels of other trade delegations, amply reflects the country’s commitment to enhance trade relations and cooperation with RAK FTZ and the UAE.”

The Minister and trade delegation also visited Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries Company (Julphar), the leading company for the production of pharmaceuticals in the Middle East. – TradeArabia News Service
