Dubai varsity inks MoU with Barclay’s Bank

Dubai, December 22, 2009

The University of Dubai, an academic institution established by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has signed a MOU with Barclays Bank for a student sponsorship program.

According to the MoU, Barclays Bank will offer a full-year sponsorship as well as opportunities for internship to deserving UAE students. Eight UAE nationals, who are currently studying at UD, have already been admitted to the program which will give them the opportunity to be exposed to technology and knowledge in the banking field, and industry’s best practices.

In return, students are required to represent Barclays Bank in official activities such as fairs, conferences and exhibitions, as well as work on a full-time basis for a maximum of one month a year.

This move is in line with the bank’s mission to support the academic and career development of UAE nationals. During the internship period students will get hands on experience on a variety of projects and learn how to operate effectively in the banking sector.

“Our students will gain valuable work experience and get a useful insight into the operational and research areas of the bank,” stated Dr Omar Hefni, president of University of Dubai.

“The program will prove to be beneficial for the students as in a 10-week period; they will work alongside experienced staff of the bank and complete their projects. The work performed by interns will be supervised and its contents depend on the division they join. It can range from research work and the preparation of draft reports to the compilation of statistical data,” added Amal Al Bayari, Barclays Emiratisation manager.-TradeArabia News Service
