Etisalat launches ‘UniTalk’ for students

Abu Dhabi, April 19, 2012

Etisalt has launched UniTalk, a new promotional student plan specially designed for university and college students in the UAE, making it pocket-friendly and an ideal choice for technology-savvy and socially-active mobile users.

Under the new UniTalk promotion, students subscribing and referring a friend who subscribes to Etisalat’s UniTalk plan until May 25, will have a chance to win attractive prizes.

It features an exciting line-up of raffle prizes that will be drawn at the end of the promotion, a statement from Etisalat.

Students have the flexibility to choose their favorite first prize worth Dh130,000 ($35,435.3) - between a car, holiday or cash worth - by voting on Etisalat’s Facebook page.

Second and third prizes include an Apple kit (Macbook, iPad and iPhone) and a Dh5,000 ($1362.9) shopping voucher, respectively. The raffle draw will be held on the reveal day at The Dubai Mall after the promotion ends.

Matthew Willsher, chief marketing officer, Etisalat, said: “In today’s information age, students demand access to educational resources, entertainment and information on-the-go. The budget-friendly UniTalk student plan offers huge savings on calls, text messages and internet surfing. To add to the appeal, through campus visits, the exciting new promotion offers the chance to win big prizes too.”

To engage its customers in the offer, Etisalat will run the UniTalk promotional Facebook campaign and conduct roadshows in over 16 campuses across the UAE. During the campus visits, students can subscribe to receive a raffle coupon and refer friends on-the-spot to receive additional coupons for a bigger chance to win prizes.

The schedule of campus visits are listed on Etisalat’s UniTalk Facebook page. To subscribe and be eligible to enter the draw, students will need to present a valid university or college student ID card issued from the UAE.

After the promotion ends, subscribed students can renew their subscription every year with no additional charges until they are no longer at university, the statement said.

UniTalk is a Wasel-powered plan that has been exclusively designed for new and existing Wasel prepaid customers studying in colleges and universities across the UAE.

The plan offers student customers Dh25 ($6.81) free credit upon subscription and Dh10 ($2.73) for the first five times they recharge their mobile account.

In addition, new subscribers receive 100MB of free data, free rental on Etisalat Messenger and on Greetune services for one month, it said.

New and existing students who are Wasel customers can migrate to the plan free of charge, and all of their national calls will be charged per-second. UniTalk customers get a special rate of as low as 0.4 fils per second for calling other UniTalk subscribers, and 0.6 fils per second for national calls outside the UniTalk group.

For text messages, students are charged 15 fils per SMS for those within the UniTalk group and 18 fils per national SMS outside the UniTalk group. All other charges, such as international calling, MMS and roaming will be charged as per the existing rates.

In addition to this, Etisalat offers an exclusive student discount of 25 per cent on all mobile internet and mobile broadband packages. Students will also have access to Blackboard Mobile Learn on Etisalat, a mobile application providing students with access to all aspects of the educational experience on their mobile phone.

This includes instant access to courses, content, grades, announcements, and organisations. The Blackboard service is subject to the institution’s subscription to the service with Etisalat. – TradeArabia News Service
