Bahrain has extended a multimillion lifeline to Syrians affected by the three-year war which has ravaged their country.

His Majesty King Hamad gave directives to allocate $20 million as part of efforts to alleviate the suffering of Syrians, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, announced the Royal move as he attended the first UN Donors' Conference in Kuwait.

His Majesty assigned the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO), led by its chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to carry out the directives.

"The Royal initiative stems from human ties linking Bahrain with all people in the world and the fraternal relations bonding Bahrainis and Syrians," he said.

Shaikh Nasser also paid tribute to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and the Crown Prince for their support.

He tasked RCO secretary-general Dr Mustafa Al Sayed to supervise the projects which will benefit needy Syrians.

Dr Al Sayed said that initial projects will be a school, a hospital and a library for children, in addition to 1,000 makeshift cabins in war-ravaged zones. - TradeArabia News Service
