A scene from 'Amour'

Top films for Dubai festival’s 'Cinema of the World’

Dubai, October 22, 2012

A true representation of the very best of this year’s films across every genre will be showcased at the ‘Cinema of the World’, a part of the 9th Dubai International Film Festival.

Michael Haneke's widely acclaimed “Amour”, which scooped the Palme d'Or at the Cannes film festival, and “Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away”, a 3D fantasy film produced by Avatar director James Cameron, are  just two of the great films that will be screened at this year’s festival, taking place between December 9 – 16.

The ‘Cinema of the World’ segment curated by industry veteran and former London Film Festival director Sheila Whitaker will showcase creativity, originality, vision and imagination through a compelling line-up of features, documentaries, shorts,  and experimental films from many countries including the UK, Mexico, Italy, Finland, France, Austria, Argentina and Spain as well as the best from Hollywood.

“Our Cinema of the World programme this year has been carefully selected to bring DIFF audiences a programme that encompasses a wide range of features and documentaries that will confront, educate, inspire and entertain. Whether you’re a film enthusiast or joining us for the first time there is something for everyone. From critically acclaimed titles, to wonderfully crafted 3D, potential front-runners for the 2013 Oscars and ground-breaking documentaries, the programme is a true representation of the very best of this year’s film across every genre,” said Masoud Amralla Al Ali, artistic director of DIFF.

The line-up include: “Rust and Bone”,  one of the undisputed hits of the year that’s generating Oscar buzz for Marion Cotillard, from director Jacques Audiard; and Stéphane Brizé’s “A Few Hours Of Spring”  about a man just released from prison who discovers that his estranged mother is fatally ill.

Whitaker said: “DIFF’s eight-day celebration of world cinema will surely delight audiences this year. The comprehensive collection of films from both established and upcoming talent is undoubtedly a medley of this year’s most anticipated and acclaimed work from every corner of the globe.” – TradeArabia News Service
