Radisson Blu Dubai to observe Earth Hour

Dubai, March 23, 2011

The Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City will support energy saving initiatives including a drive to recycle batteries in support of the Earth Hour campaign, the hotel’s general manager said.

Pasquale Baiguera added that during Earth Hour on March 26 between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm the hotel’s lobbies and outlets, such as Certo and Icon Bar & Lounge will use minimal lighting. Meanwhile, the hotel’s exterior lighting will ‘shut down’ and LED floor lights will be beamed throughout the night.

“We believe that small steps will lead to big changes. Like in previous years, we will once again run our recycle batteries initiative in Icon Bar & Lounge,” Baiguera said.

“A special offer at Icon Bar & Lounge is ‘bring 5 used batteries and get a free pre-selected drink’,” he added.

This offer will be valid between 20:30 to 21:30 and it is only for one use per person, i.e. one free drink per transaction, he explained.

“The challenge of recycling batteries remains a large one for environmentalists, worldwide. Heavy metals and other toxins released by batteries in landfills can seep into the soil and eventually reach the water system,” Baiguera concluded.

Earth Hour, launched 2007 in Australia by the WWF, the global conservation organization, calls for people, communities and cities to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour starting at 20:30 hours local time. – TradeArabia News Service
