Sharjah Ramadan Fair celebrates 25 years

Sharjah, August 7, 2011

The upcoming silver jubilee edition of the annual Sharjah Ramadan Fair promises to be the best ever installment of the popular shopping and entertainment extravaganza.

The fair will be held at Expo Centre Sharjah from August 11 to September 3, and feature a series of exciting shopping, entertainment and cultural activities.

The fair has won the support of Air Arabia and leading electronics retailer E-Max.

“The show, which was launched soon after Expo Centre Sharjah was set up in 1977, has grown with each edition to become an integral part of the Ramadan and Eid celebrations and the Sharjah Ramadan Festival,” Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, director-general of Expo Centre Sharjah, told a press conference.

The press conference was attended by Abdul Aziz Al Musalam, director of heritage and culture affairs at Sharjah’s Department of Culture and Information; Zafar Islam, deputy general manager of E-Max; Dr Amina Hashim, director of health education, Sharjah Medical Zone; and Fatima Sandal, head marketing and communication, Sharjah Media Corporation.

“A Thai pavilion featuring 25 stalls will be a new attraction at the show. It will cater to the demand for all the products that are Thai, which are known for their quality and finesse,” Al Midfa said.

The fair will have a special section for SMEs, in addition to the participation of members of Ruwad Establishment, Sharjah Businesswomen Council and Ajman Businesswomen Council. Apart from SMEs, a strong participation of local companies will be a key attraction of the fair.

In all, more than 150 establishments will have their stalls within 8,000 sq m of exhibition space, showcasing household items, furniture, electronics, food products, garments, footwear, gift items and jewellery. Foreign participation has also increased this year with retailers coming from China, Turkey, Italy, India, Pakistan, Singapore and Malaysia, among others.

Visitors will also have a chance to win free air tickets and holiday packages, courtesy of Air Arabia, and exciting promotional offers on electronics and computers, thanks to E-Max.

The fair will be open from 9pm to 1am during the month of Ramadan and from 5pm – 11pm during Eid. Entry and parking is free.

The show is organised by Expo Centre Sharjah in association with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. - TradeArabia News Service
