Expo puts spotlight on food safety, security

Top government ministers and heads of international trade delegations from more than 20 countries conducted roundtable talks at the Gulfood 2013 expo, the mammoth annual food and hospitality trade event, which kicked off yesterday in Dubai.
 
The talks were held under the theme “Aligning the Global Food Industry with Food Security and Food Safety Needs”, said the event organisers, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
 
Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, the UAE Minister of Environment and Water was joined by government ministers and heads of international trade delegations from Argentina, New Zealand, Turkey, UAE and the United Kingdom, they stated. 
 
The programme focused on current and future food needs, identifying regional food security and food safety objectives and discussing on how the global food supply chain can support them.
 
Gulfood is strictly a trade-only event and is open to business and trade visitors from within the industry only. Gulfood is open from 11am-7pm till February 27 and from 11am-5pm on February 28. The onsite entry fee is Dh250 ($68), the organisers said. 
 
Gulfood features local, regional and international exhibitors with unmatched expertise and in-depth market knowledge, they added.
