Security beefed up at Bahrain exchange after burglary

Manama, March 19, 2014

Security is being beefed up at a money exchange after it was confirmed it was the target of a botched burglary.

An employee at Nonoo Exchange, on Exhibition Avenue, initially denied there was a break-in and said staff had to force their way in due to a broken lock on Monday, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

However, a representative yesterday confirmed foul play was involved and said the initial denial was intended to avoid alerting the culprits that police were on their trail.

He said the intruder, identified as an Asian male, eventually left empty-handed after failing to break open the safe.

"The branch was broken into by someone who broke the lock of the shutter, closed it while he was inside and then broke the lock of the front door," he said.

"He broke into the safe room and all the drawers, but was unable to get into the safe. There were only coins in the drawers, which the thief left - he took nothing."

Police were called in and a forensics team dusted for fingerprints, while CCTV footage was also taken away for analysis. The company has also reported the incident to the Central Bank of Bahrain. - TradeArabia News Service
