Bahrain to boost energy efficiency

Manama, May 25, 2013

Bahrain's Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs Dr Abdulhussain Mirza has pledged to work on improving energy efficiency and water conservation.

In a message to mark 'Arab Day of Energy Efficiency,' the minister said reducing gaseous emissions from the burning of fuel used to produce electricity and water was a top priority.

He also revealed the government was looking to set up a national centre to examine ways of improving energy efficiency and renewable energy.

"Bahrain has launched many projects and programmes to improve energy efficiency, including strategies for thermal insulation in buildings, and energy efficiency in industrial and commercial facilities," said Dr Mirza.

"We have also implemented a national plan to increase energy efficiency in the residential sector, which consumes half the power produced annually in the country," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
