Cavotec wins $4m Muscat airport contract

Dubai, September 12, 2010

Cavotec Middle East has won a Dh15 million ($4.08 million) contract for the design, supply, and installation of 95 pop-up pit systems at the new Muscat International Airport.

The subsidiary of global engineering group Cavotec MSL,won the contract from Bahwan Engineering Company, the biggest MEP contracting company in the Sultanate of Oman and part of the Bahwan Group.

Cavotec will also supply its Wibe Cable Support System to the development, adding to the firm’s portfolio for the Muscat International Airport project.

“The selection of our products to support the airport’s expansion further cements our position as the leading supplier of sophisticated equipment suitable for a vast array of applications,” stated Juergen Strommer, managing director of Cavotec Middle East.

Following the inking of this contract, Cavotec’s pop-up pit systems can now be found in five different airports within the GCC region: Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Muscat.

Cavotec MSL pop-up pit systems are used for storing such items as 400Hz cables, PCA hoses, potable water hoses, and technical services under the tarmac apron. When the aircraft is in the parking position or maintenance hangar, the pop-up system is deployed and raised to working level. Upon disconnection, Cavotec’s pop-up pits automatically retract to surface level.

Cavotec’s in-ground systems supply aircraft with fuel, power, water and pre-conditioned air, eliminating the need for service vehicles, diesel generators, cables and hoses that typically cover much of the area around parked aircraft.-TradeArabia News Service
