Fortis closes Bahrain branch

Manama, April 2, 2009

Fortis Bank A S, Turkey-based banking and financial services provider, has published its intent to close down operations at its Bahrain branch.

This was resolved at a meeting of the board of directors held in July, 2008, according to the statement.

Sources said that this move comes as a result of the bank’s restructuring plans in the Middle East.

A notice has been published in today’s (April 2) edition of the Gulf Daily News newspaper that any claims against its Bahrain branch by creditors or members of the public within Bahrain, should be notified to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Bahrain at the BMB Centre in Manama within ten days.

It further states that if no claims are received within the stipulated ten days, the bank shall presume that no claims exist against its Bahrain branch.

The notification was issued by PwC in its capacity as external auditors undertaking closure of the Bahrain branch of Fortis A S. – TradeArabia News Service
