Egypt banks to auction Tbills

Cairo, February 5, 2011

Egypt's central bank will resume its Treasury bill auctions on Monday after a one-week interruption caused by the country's political unrest, said central bank's deputy governor Hisham Ramez.

Egypt's banks will reopen for business on Sunday at 10 am (0800 GMT) and close at 1.30 p.m.after a week-long closure, Ramez informed.

"We will announce the schedule on Sunday, hold the auction on Monday and have settlement on Tuesday," he said by telephone. He did not mention the amounts to be offered or their maturities.

The stock exchange said earlier that it was reversing a decision taken last week to reopen on Monday and that it would announce the new reopening date 48 hours beforehand.-Reuters
