Nakheel, one of the world's largest privately held real estate developers, won three awards at the recent Facilities Management Middle East awards organised by publishing group ITP in Dubai.

At the ceremony held at The Westin, Nakheel was honoured with the ‘Partners in Facilities Management’ award for its work with Imdaad Environment on Palm Jumeirah’s waste management and recycling system.

Bradley Robbins, Nakheel’s facility manager was named Facilities Manager of the Year and Omar Khoory, also facility manager, was awarded the ‘One to watch’.

“2008 was a successful year for us in terms of waste management, across Palm Jumeirah and throughout all our communities,” said Abdulrahman Kalantar, managing director of Nakheel asset management and design.

“With the support of Imdaad Environment, our main waste contractor, Nakheel’s Recycle it! programme diverted over 22 per cent of the Palm’s total waste from entering Dubai’s landfill sites during 2008 and the first quarter of 2009,” he added.

“It is great that the importance of a responsible attitude to waste management has been highlighted and we hope to continue to raise awareness of environmental issues in Dubai and across the region.

“Nakheel’s facilities management team has successfully implemented best practices, reduced costs and executed a successful operation to ensure buildings are effectively run with sustainable practices in place.  We extend our congratulations to Bradley and Omar and the to the whole Facilities Management team for their ongoing efforts.”

Palm Jumeirah’s waste management and recycling system is part of Nakheel’s ongoing commitment to waste management.

Through the provision of recycling bins, collection schemes and informative flyers and stickers to over 3,000 properties across Palm Jumeirah, Nakheel and Imdaad increased the waste diversion of Palm Jumeirah by over 200 per cent in Q4 of 2008. – TradeArabia News Service
