Saudi projects honoured at Cityscape awards

Dubai, June 9, 2010

The leading Saudi property and architecture projects were honoured at the Cityscape Jeddah 2010, the largest real estate investment and development event in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

New real estate projects dominated the awards race at the '2nd Cityscape Awards for Real Estate in Saudi Arabia' held on Tuesday night as part of Cityscape Jeddah 2010.

Winners under the Development Category included Emaar - The Economic City’s Esmeralda Village at King Abdullah Economic City for ‘Best Waterfront Development (Future);’ Alandalus Property Company’s Hayat Mall for the ‘Commercial and Retail Project Award (Built);’ the Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Co.’s Khozam Palace Regeneration Project for the ‘Commercial and Retail Project Award (Future);’ and Emaar Middle East’s Jeddah Gate Project for the ‘Residential Project Award (Future).’ Emaar Middle East’s Jeddah Gate also won the ‘Best Urban Design and Master Planning Award’ in the Architecture Category.

Cityscape Jeddah was formally opened by Prince Misha’al Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz, the Governor of Jeddah Province, and is supported by the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

It features the projects and services of over 100 local and international property investors, developers and service providers within 10,000 sqm of exhibition space.

“This year’s awards were dominated by future projects, affirming the huge potential of Saudi Arabia’s property market. The high level of quality of the nominations and winning developments will certainly raise industry standards and boost competitiveness. We congratulate the winners for their exceptional work and their positive influence on the real estate industry,” said Deep Marwaha, director of Cityscape Jeddah.

The awards ceremony highlighted the presence of major industry players in the Saudi market and reflected another highly-successful edition of Cityscape Jeddah.

More than 2,000 international and real estate professionals and investors have flown to Jeddah for the event. Total participation is expected to be over 10,000 for the three days, including investors from all over the Kingdom.

Double-category Winner Emaar Middle East, the Saudi-focused subsidiary of global property developer Emaar Properties, is featuring its three flagship projects in the Kingdom: the SR6 billion Jeddah Gate mixed-use development; Al Khobar Lakes, a luxury lakefront project and the largest integrated community in the Eastern Province; and The Emaar Residences at the Fairmont Makkah which offers serviced residences on a leasehold basis.

“Cityscape Jeddah is an important platform for us to contribute to the market dynamics of Saudi Arabia, particularly its need for more luxury residences. The show allows us to assess key industry trends and consumer views and thus come up with projects that meet the unique requirements of our customers,” said Dr Dia Malaeb, regional CEO responsible for Emaar Middle East.

Charles Collett, country manager of Saudi Arabia, Aedas Middle East said, “We are enthusiastic about Aedas office opening in Riyadh, re-affirming our efforts in the region. Saudi Arabia has much to offer both in terms of development and culture and we are very pleased to now reside and be part of the community here.”

“Cityscape Jeddah is the second event we have been part of in the Kingdom and we are delighted with the welcome and response we have received here. Our Riyadh office is the start of our presence, but we will expand in the Kingdom rapidly over the next 12 months. We look forward to Cityscape in Riyadh in December,” he added.

The Cityscape Jeddah programme includes the annual Saudi Arabia Real Estate Investment and Development Conference, being held under the theme ‘Transparency, Investment Models and Future Partnerships.’
