Manama, April 5, 2011

First Bahrain, a leading real estate developer in the Kingdom, said it has signed a new tenancy agreement with Switz Group, one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of bakery products, for its Majaal Warehousing Company.

Switz Group has chosen Majaal warehousing and logistics complex as an ideal location to serve the expansion of their subsidiary brand, to be known as Bahrain Masterbaker.

The new business will commence operations shortly, and will import products such as the ever-popular cup cakes, pastries and samosa leaves from their Saudi Masterbaker operation in Saudi Arabia.

From their base in Majaal, they will distribute to retail outlets such as hypermarkets and groceries in Bahrain.

Announcing this on Tuesday, Amin Al Arrayed, general manager of First Bahrain and managing director of Majaal Warehouse Company, said the developer was still attracting overseas companies to set up business in the Kingdom.

'Despite the recent unrest in Bahrain, we are still attracting foreign investment into the Kingdom. I believe this is a testament to our successful demand-driven investment philosophy and our sustainable strategy and a positive sign of recovery in the Kingdom.'

'It’s great to have a ready-to-run facilities available for the Switz Group to launch its bakery distribution centre in Bahrain, and they have appreciated the safe and secure location Majaal occupies which makes it ideal for operations, particularly under the current conditions. We are looking forward to a very successful partnership,' he observed.

A second subsidiary, Masterbaker Trading, is also being setup within the same facility to import premium bakery ingredients from Europe and US. These ingredients which are preferred by chefs will be supplied to hotels, caterers and restaurants, he added.

Occupying 2,700 sq ft of secure industrial workspaces at Majaal, Switz Group will ensure that Bahrain residents can enjoy these delicious treats every day, said the company chief.

Adel Khorakiwala, CEO of Switz Group said, 'Bahrain is a prime market for Switz Group, being so close to our manufacturing facilities in Saudi Arabia, and having the right demographic for our target consumer.'

'Over the past six months, our feasibility studies have shown that it has great potential and we look forward to bringing the Bahrain people a new and exciting experience in bakery products,' he noted.

Majaal, First Bahrain’s inaugural project, is located within the Salman Industrial City at the Bahrain Investment Wharf, providing easy access to Khalifa bin Salman Port and other major transport links in the Kingdom.

Majaal presently offers 130,000 sq ft of secure, flexible and cost effective storage space which has been designed especially to facilitate the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) segment of the Kingdom’s industrial sector, said Al Arrayed.

Space is available for lease from as little as 2,700 sq ft to multiples of 10,700 sq ft, and expansion plans are in the pipeline, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
