ProMedia implements BIM technology at Qatar firm

Doha, July 24, 2011

ProMedia, a subsidiary of Omnix International in Qatar, has implemented the Revit-based Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology for MZ & Partners, a leading Qatar-based architectural and engineering consultancy firm.

The implementation follows after MZ & Partners strategic decision to utilize the new design technology to help fast track the development of its current crop of projects in Qatar totalling over QR3 billion ($823.88 million).

The consultancy is looking to use key BIM software like Revit Architecture, Revit MEP and Revit Structure to support the Qatari government’s mandate towards eco-friendly and sustainable construction projects, a statement said.

ProMedia has also customised a specialised training programme for MZ & Partner’s staff to help ease the transition of using AutoCAD (2D) software to Revit-based BIM technology.

According to MZ & Partners, the company chose ProMedia for its advanced knowledge and experience in using Revit-based BIM technology and its related software solutions. Major challenges that MZ & Partners faced before the implementation included issues in productivity in generating designs, conflicts in drawings, corrections and repetitions of revisions of designs, which in turn costs the company resources to rectify the conflict at site.

These challenges are further magnified by fast track schedules, a heightened need for security and the large number of architects, engineers, and builders involved in different projects. Looking to address these issues, ProMedia made a thorough study and analysis of MZ & Partners operations before coming up with an integrated suite of BIM solutions for the company.

“Construction projects today waste a lot of money in the constant revision of electrical drawings, HVAC and plumbing plans and other drawing designs due to clashes in measurement and other factors. This demonstrates the need to shift from the traditional AutoCAD design to the more revolutionary BIM technology,” said Fawzi Ismail, general manager, MZ & Partners. “Utilising BIM software like Revit Architecture, Revit MEP and Revit Structure will give us a competitive advantage. The implementations of these key BIM solutions will not only address the issue of clashes in design but will also help us save on costs and about 60 per cent of production time, which is four to six weeks off the design process.”

“One of the long term benefits of using BIM technology is the advantage of better design coordination to help solve primary issues in the virtual models, which saves on both time and money,” said Nidhin Dev, business development manager, ProMedia. “MZ & Partners was impressed with the time, quality & reliability of information produced from using BIM solutions. The company and its stakeholders will definitely reap positive results from the efficiency, accuracy and the quick delivery of projects.” -TradeArabia News Service
